An Opal triplet cabochon sandwiches a slice of natural opal between a hard base and a transparent top, such as quartz. This makes the triplet cabochon more scratch resistant than a solid Opal cabochon would be, but also means special care should be taken to avoid contact/submersion in liquids (even water) to prevent potential damage to the triplet.
